Hyperglycaemia is what happens when the blood glucose levels raise too high.


  • Increased thirst and urination
  • Headaches
  • Lack of energy / lethargy
  • Stomach pains


  • Missing an insulin dose, or taking too little insulin
  • Eating more carbohydrate than usual
  • Over-treating a hypo
  • Stress
  • Being unwell
  • Having an infection


  • Drink plenty of sugar-free fluids
  • Take extra insulin, if necessary
  • Test your blood regularly to monitor your blood glucose
  • Test for ketones
