DAFNE - Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating, is a five day intensive management programme for people with type 1 diabetes. This structured education programme looks in detail at diabetes and how to adjust your insulin to the carbohydrates you are eating. The course is delivered by a diabetes specialist nurse and dietician and covers a variety of topics from what diabetes is, to carbohydrate counting.

DAFNE at present is delivered in a hospital setting, in Bexley it is delivered at the Diabetes Centre. The course operates Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

The intensive nature of the course makes it an effective way to learn and discover how your insulin regime works. Throughout the week you learn how to change your insulin doses, to ensure you have better control of your blood glucose levels.

How do I Register on to a DAFNE Course?

To attend a DAFNE course you will need to visit your healthcare professional. If you attend the hospital reguarly for care, just ask your diabetes specialist nurse or consultant to be put on the list. If you are seen at the practice ask your GP or nurse to refer you.
