Community Champions

Bexley has been working in partnership with Diabetes UK on a "Community Champions" project. This project involves working with the leaders of local religous groups and ethnic communities to help raise awareness of type 2 diabetes. The people who volunteer to be a part of this project will be provided training, so they become aware of the risk factors, symptoms, myths and misconceptions about diabetes. We then hope that they can work within their community to pass on their knowledge to their followers. Therefore improving the knowledge people living with diabetes have.

October saw us train our second group of Community Champions with people from a wide variety of communities. We hope that this will help encourage people to talk about their diabetes and find they can talk with someone they trust about any health issues.
