Body Mass Index (BMI)

weight management

BMI or body mass index is a calculation of how much body fat you have and if your weight is correctly proportioned to your height. The calculation is made by dividing your weight by your height and then squared.  When you reach an answer this is your BMI and the higher the number the greater amount of body fat you have.  If you have a large BMI you are more at risk of developing conditions such as high blood pressure, heart problems and if you do not already have it, type 2 diabetes.

If you would like to find out your BMI in an easy to unerstand way please follow this link to the BBC health pages and use their interactive BMI tool.
